Gosport Borough v Compton and Chandlers Ford Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 04 Jun 2011 at 1pm
Compton and Chandlers Ford Cricket Club Lost By 8 wickets

Match report On a hot and muggy day in Portsmouth captain Spearing luckily won the toss and elected to bat which seemed a good decision looking at the flat track and bearing in mind that due to a HMS Collingwood open day only 8 players arrived in time for the start.
Moving up the order to open Nate got off to a positive start hitting two boundaries in the opening exchanges only to be caught spectacularly at point looking for his third. This brought 'Millhouse' to the wicket looking to build a partnership with the uncharacteristically quiet Amiya at the other end. The pair batted sensibly to take the score to 87 in the 18th over until Amiya sliced a full toss into the covers and was caught by another diving catch.
The innings then stuttered as Gorty was dismissed for a well made 48 and the in form Brennan managed to run himself out (if only he had run as quick as he did to the changing room after being out!). At 130-4 the innings was at a cross roads as Compton needed to build a couple of partnerships to reach the minimum score of 250 on a very flat wicket.
The Agha brothers played the only way they know how to put on 40 but when Syed holed out to deep square it was left to Alex (elevated up the order after last weeks elegant dismissal) and the younger Agha to take the score up to 240 with Alex making 23 and Mahmood a first team best 48.

Knowing that they might be slightly short of a par score Compton knew that early wickets were needed but through a combination of excellent batting and a bit of luck early on the Gosport openers made a solid start until a somewhat surprising direct hit run out from Alex at mid off ran out opener Rees for 40. Jack then bowled the other opener Harrop on his way to a very impressive 1-46 off his ten overs. Unfortunately the 1ST XI were unable to make the next break through and Gosport batted very well to reach their target with nearly 10 overs to spare.

Overall a very disappointing performance all round from the team with batsmen getting in and out and although bowling well we were unable to pick up wickets at the crucial times. One positive to take into next weeks home game vs Idlers was a much better display in the field than last week as we look to beat the newly promoted side to kick start our season.
