Swan Green II v Compton and Chandlers Ford Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 26 May 2012 at 2pm
Compton and Chandlers Ford Cricket Club Lost by 10 wickets

Match report The fourth team turned up on a beautiful day at Swan Green. The team then gained its tenth player Raj Sharma and he was joined by Graham Machin who had turned up to watch. Thus we finally had 11 players.
The stand in skipper Philip Wilson lost the toss again and was then asked to bat. Since there were only two players in common with last week’s winning team a new opening partnership of Harry and Chris started the job. Swan Green' opening fast bowler was excellent making the ball swing and seam off a very dry pitch(!). Chris edged one to the keeper and this brought in Jenny. Harry and Jenny then started to look excellent taking runs where ever possible and also finding the trees in the outfield. In a near 50 stand the scoring between the pair of bats was even, then Jenny was caught. In came debutant Mark who lasted less than an over. Gazzer came to the wicket and was looking good but missed one and was bowled for 4. Then another debutant, Amy arrived and stuck around for a while but was finally bowled by the accurate Messinger. This brought to the wicket another debutant; Raj who stayed around with Harry was out for a creditable top score of 25. Hence, we had a father and son partnership since Sohail, yet another debutant, joined the game. The pair batted well together which means we have another family contributing to the club. Sohail was bowled, bringing Graham, another debutant, to the wicket. He had the unfortunate experience of an over of wides and no balls to deal with and after being deprived of a four by the tree at cow corner, was bowled by a straight ball. So finally skipper Philip arrives. A few more wides and no balls from the same bowler with one ball dispatched for 4. Finally the last wicket fell when Raj found a fielder who held on to a catch, all out for 132 in 32 overs. This was a reasonable score for the team that had only five players earlier in the week. Extras were the highest scorers with 49!
After a good tea CFCC set upon the task of getting wickets. It proved impossible with a batsman who found his confidence early and the bowling side lacking a pace bowler an early end to the match happened after 20 overs, a ten wicket defeat. Kimberley, the Swan Green opener looked really good and was placing the ball where he wanted and made a fine 89 not out. The only chance he gave was to Raj who spilled the catch bowler his son. Interesting conversation on the way home no doubt!

The positives to take were few, but the new keeper Amy, together with accurate bowling made sure we only gave away 1 extra. Really nice ground, really nice tea and really nice opposition team, difficult outfield, thank you to all those who made sure we did not default the fixture.

Next week we have a chance to return to our winning ways at Riverside Park in Southampton.
